In a previous post we had written a tutorial on how to add watermarks to images in Photoshop using its Brush tool. Now in this tutorial we are going to see how to remove watermark from an image. Just like anything with software, there are different ways to do the same thing. Again you have various tools and methods to remove watermarks on pictures in Photoshop. The clone stamp tool is usually used to remove watermarks from photos. Select the “Clone Stamp Tool”, then hold down “Alt” key on your keyboard and click somewhere on the picture that looks similar in color to watermark background, finally release the ALT key and use your mouse to paint over the watermark to remove it. You can adjust brush size to a smaller value and get better result when you use the Clone Stamp Tool to delete watermarks from images in Photoshop. Today, we will introduce another new and quick tool to remove watermarks from pictures, called Content-Aware Move Tool. Note that this tool seems to be available for Photoshop CS5 and later. We are using Photoshop CS6 in this demo.
NOTE: it is illegal to remove watermarks from others’ copyright content without proper permissions.
How to remove watermarks from images using Content-Aware Move Tool in Photoshop?
Run Photoshop on your computer, add the source image file with watermark on it to Photoshop.
Step 1. Duplicate layer for backup
Right click to duplicate the layer at the Layers panel at the lower right section. You can also create a copy of the source image for backup in your hard drive folder for backup, so you don’t need to duplicate the layer. We are doing this is to make sure you have a backup to restore when you made unrecoverable changes to the source photo. Any changes are to be made to the copy. And when you have removed watermarks from the image copy, save it as a new image.
Step 2. Select watermark
Now go to select the Content-Aware Move Tool in Photoshop as shown in below screenshot.
In the property panel of the Content-Aware Move Tool, choose a remix mode to Move, choose ‘Very Strict‘ to define how strictly the regions preserved. This setting can help get more smooth image quality when the watermarks are being deleted. Click and hold to select the area around the watermark on your image you need to remove.
Step 3. Remove watermark from image
Press the Delete button on your keyboard to remove it. Alternatively when you selected the watermark in the image, you can also go to Edit menu > Fill, then you will see the Fill Pallet box pops up on your PC screen. Here you need to choose Content-Aware in the content to use area, set Mode to Normal, Opacity to 100% in the Blending area, click OK, then the watermark selected will be filled with similar content or color to its background.
Back in Windows 7 days we have this popular post on removing watermark from Windows 7 Beta & RC. Now that Windows 8 is here & leaked on internet we are sure some of you definitely want to get rid of watermark from desktop. Thanks to users at MDL forum for figuring how to remove watermark.
Unfortunately Windows 8 watermark includes hash tag which is mechanism added by Microsoft for tracking leakers. Now this hashtag is dynamically generated hence it is not possible to remove from Windows 8 desktop. So proceed to below short how to guide on how to remove Windows 8 watermark.
How to Remove Watermark from Windows 8 Desktop
1. Download Modified shell32.dll.mui file from here
2. Now go to C:Windowssystem32en-us and locate shell32.dll.mui
3. Take ownership of file shell32.dll.mui and rename to shell_org32.dll.mui (Check out how to take ownership on Windows 8 Guide)
4. Now place modified shell32.dll.mui in System32 folder and close it.
5. Open elevated command prompt ( Start Menu->Accessories-> right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator).
6. Now type mcbuilder and wait for few seconds
7. Now reboot your Windows 8 for changes to take effect.
That’s it, watermark on Windows 8 desktop must be removed.
A fine looking desktop, except for one little thing: the watermark in the bottom-right corner.
I wish to remove it. Shredder shotgun ammo. I would prefer to avoid untrusted software for a cosmetic change. How can it be done safely?

This should no longer be an issue when you apply the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (Version 1607, Build 14393.10). The watermark is gone.

I ran into the same issue - the watermark drives me nuts. I managed to come up with a temporary fix for the problem. Note that it involved editing a system hex file, and while I haven't experienced anything going wrong so far, I cannot promise it won't come with negative consequences. Perform at your own risk.
You'll need HexEdit (or another hex file editor) to perform these steps; I used HexEdit for this guide and it works just fine with Windows 10.
However, it looks like when you restart your computer, the watermark comes back. Editing the basebrd.dll.mui hex file through HexEdit will show it unchanged. Opening the file, saving it again, and then changing the desktop background will quickly allow you to remove the watermark upon booting. I’ll be looking into a more permanent fix in the meantime.
For a few more details/images, I also covered this in my blog post.

For me the Winaero Universal Watermark Disabler did the job. I found the instructions here, that boil down to this:

How To Remove Definitely Windows Watermark In Windows 10
Now the watermark is gone. Of course, this is at your own risk.

Just use an all white background or edit your background picture with a white spot under the build version.
